The 3.4 release is just around the corner, and the customizer is killer. I can showcase it for anyone interested.

@designsimply, I’d love to learn more about the theme customizer in 3.4. Hope to see you tonight!

Sheri Bigelow will be doing a brief presentation on the new features of WordPress 3.3, otherwise we’ll just be discussing recent projects, favorite themes, plugins, or why WordPress is so amazing. Also, after the meetup there is an open mic at the coffee house if you’re looking for something to do?  Hope to see you there!

P.S. Just look for the sign if you’re coming.

This sounds great, but I don’t normally travel that far (1 hr. for me), let alone into Albany. Sorry if that sounds terrible, but it’s the truth. Are there any more Meetups planned for further north, like Clifton Park or Saratoga Springs?

      • Damon 10:03 am on February 10, 2012 Permalink | Reply

Hi HollyAnn and welcome! I live in Glens Falls, but currently work 5 days in Saratoga. I hope to have next one in Saratoga. Stay tuned for details.

    Howdy!

    • When/where should we have our next meetup? Mid-January? Closer to Albany next time or Glens Falls?
    • We should install Jetpack on wp518.org for the subscriptions!
    • What do you think about setting up a #wp518 irc channel on freenode?

    • Damon 9:59 am on November 18, 2011 Permalink | Reply

      • We might be able to squeeze one in for December if people are interested. I think we should shoot for Albany, but would love to hear what others think?
      • Jetpack is new to me, but I’m fine with installing if it doesn’t cost.
      • I’m down with IRC. Never used, but love new stuff. Recommended IRC clients are welcome, or one can probably just use Terminal. Will start to brush up on it…

I’d love a December meetup. We could do a short talk on what’s new in 3.3. Jetpack is free. My favorite IRC client is LimeChat.

Our Jetpack is now fueled, or should I say we’re now fueled by Jetpack ;p

Holy spam! I broke down and installed Akismet. Anybody out there?

    • designsimply 1:20 pm on November 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

      Akismet is a must. ;)

      • Damon 9:49 am on November 23, 2011 Permalink | Reply

FYI – I’ve now also installed Bad Behavior to try and discourage SPAM signups. It wasn’t too out of control, but wanted to put a squash on it.

Ok, November is here and the holidays are going to compound the busy, busy times ahead. Let’s get one more quick meetup in this month. I propose: Uncommon Grounds, Saratoga Springs, on Thursday, November 17th @ 7pm? Who’s in?

    • designsimply 9:23 am on November 15, 2011 Permalink | Reply

      Sounds great! I’m in. :)

    • designsimply 9:53 pm on November 17, 2011 Permalink | Reply

The November meetup turned out to be lessons in DNS, ssh, and nginx. :)

      • DNS – as in how to setup domain management in multisite
      • ssh – fixing keys for MediaTemple ssh access
      • nginx – how to restart a crashed server, ahem

We also looked at some of the new features coming up in 3.3 like flyouts, pointers, and the totally awesome new uploader! Drag & Drop FTW.

Love it! Great meetup and I hope we get to see more of you guys next time! Psst, hint @George. ;)

Ahhh, knew this was coming up – had work late anyway though hope it went well!

      • Damon 9:54 am on November 18, 2011 Permalink | Reply

@designsimply taught little grasshopper the DNS ways. Next time don’t let me starve you, and maybe the next meetup should involve food?

@Matt, hope you can make next one.

BTW – I hope to have a detailed tutorial on setting up WP Multisite with Domain Mapping on MediaTemple DV in coming weeks, but first want to get my configuration stable ;)
